I do think he's pretty capable, however, big ten had some problems
I Think most of the schools like the alliance EXCEPT OHIO State. Smith had a 'discussion with the Big ten commissioner over scheduling and they were not going to be any player in the conference joint scheduling of non conferences. Basically they advised, the big ten who are your daddy, and implied, they would leave if that happens. The Big ten commissioner retreated.
(I wonder if Michigan felt the same, however, had a discussion with the big ten commissioner behind the doors). HOWEVER, this exposed the agenda, THE SUPER PROGRAMS we can name them, the 200 300 million dollar football programs, We can count about 20 and they do not want to be collaborative, they want it all and the hell with the rest. (frankly the networks like that as well)...For these programs, they really have no use with the conferences, however, as long as the good money flows, they will tolerate it.
